Hey okay!

Well, this is the next coming new single by Anneke van Giersbergen & Agua de Annique. Anneke had great plans for this year, in 2008 I was talking with Jacques de Haard and after that I knew that they were planning to record and release a new album, but the highlight here is that in order to make and record their album, Anneke and her husband would build their own studio just in their home!!!!, that's great!!!!!, now Anneke has all the freedom to do anything that she and her band are having in mind.

The name of their new album is: In your room, up to now I've just listened "Hey, okay!" and I can say it's really a quite good song with a different style than the used in Air or in Pure Air. This new style is sticky and maybe after hearing this song you'll be surprise yourself repeating the rythm of it. I really like the lyric of this song, and I can't wait to listen the complete album.

"Hey okay!" will be realeased in Oct 6th, and "In your room" will be released in Oct 30th, these are good news for their fans that have been waiting for a new dose of Agua de Annique's music.

Up to date neither the album nor the new single have been published in Amazon, so that I think that a best place to buy it is the official band's store (you have time to save money and get it on time, yeah!)

Here's an official video where you can listen the new single, let me know what do you think about it.

Song of the Day

Transformers is one of my favorite movies of 2008, robots, battles, awesome transformations and an outstanding beauty Megan Fox.

After watching the movie I went directly to Mix up and bought Transformers: The Album, I have to say that it's a good album, BUT it is NOT the OST or Score (I thought it was the OST), this album only has 3 songs from the motion picture the others were just placed in the disc to "achieve" an album. If you are looking for a new rock album maybe it can be a good option, but I suggest to hear the album in the store before buying it.

After all this background the song of the day is:

This moment by Disturbed

I don't remember if this song is played in the movie, but it's a nice one, yeah!

Here's a video from youtube:

Have a nice thursday.

A Geek Star is not the same than a Rock Star

Today I found this hilarious Intel´s commercial, a good one and one of my top 20's commercial, it's incredible how a "Celebrity" is not exactly the same in different context.

Enjoy it, this is at least to laugh a little for today, yeah!

Song of the day - March 24th

Today I have been a really busy day so that I had to let the random option of my iPod turnned on the whole day.

The song of the day is Drive by R.E.M., it's a classic song (at least to me) slow, a little bit depressive and with an unique sound, like when you are just waiting to something happen and you have this song as background. This is one of those songs that you must hear while you're driving at the highway and going to nowhere.

Song: Drive
Artist: R.E.M.
Album: Automatic For The People

I remember the first time that I watched the video of this song, it was something like strange in those days to me, and since the first moment that I heard it I really really really liked it.

Here's a live performance of this song, enjoy it:

Song of the day - March 23th

This weekend I got an idea to my blog, it is about recommending a song to each day, according to iTunes I have more that 8,000 songs in my library so that it's time to recommend at least one per day, let's begin today.

In the morning I wake up with this song and I have been singing it up to now, its name is: Sunken soldiers, by Agua de Annique. It is a really sad song if you are not in a nice way with your boyfriend or girlfriend. The main line of this song is about a couple that just have lost its magic, love and there is no way to continue anymore.

The best part to me is when the song says:
I have no better words, than thankyou and goodbye.

Song: Sunken Soldiers
Artist: Agua de Annique
Album: Air

This is a video of Anneke singing this song.

The West Pole

Days ago The Gathering announced their new album: The West Pole, it is their first album after Anneke van Giersbergen left them in 2007, additionally with this new album they announced the new member of them, her name: Silje Wergeland, she has a pretty voice and a nice style, now the question is if she can make a good, nice or better job than Anneke's times.

The first answer that you can get is by listening the new singles that are published in their space site

You can get more information about Silje in this site about her discography.

It's the first time that I heard about her and after listening the new singles I can say that they hear very well, it seems to be a nice beginning to The Gathering after the news from 2007.

About the new songs, they are pretty different if you compare them with their previous album Home. The guitars are lighter, with a whiter sound, and more armonic. The songs are Guitar driven instead of bass or guitar noise driving. Their new sound is easier to listen to new fans maybe this is a good point but for fan's from previous years it could be a little bit dissapointed because for example in "Treasure" you won't hear any sad sound or a depressive song at all, you'll hear a "happy" song (considering their other albums). On the other hand, The West Pole is a song that was written in their original style, and maybe it can make you remember another Gathering's song. After all, it can be an album with well known sounds and new style songs, I hope it will bring a great surprise to me.

The release of the new album seems to be April 5th 2009, and you can get this album and its special editions (I already bought my own) in their official web-store. It's just a question of time to get it and hear the complete album.

Finally you can take a look to their new pics, songs and blog just to get more information about this new disc, new songs, and a new member.

Air by Agua de Annique

Air is the name of the first album of Agua de Annique, maybe the name of the band doesn't say too much but if you know The Gathering and you are a fan of them you maybe know that this is the name of the new project by Anneke van Giersbergen (former The Gathering vocalist).

This album was released in October 2007 and it is a "two thumbs up" album. By being the first album of the band I was afraid to get a young band with a sound without an identity (obviously I forgot to include Anneke's experience -my bad- ). After hearing the first track "Beautiful one" you notice that this new band has Anneke's personal touch, her experience and composition. I have to say that I hear in this album a "different" Anneke, the one that has all the liberty to compose any song in any way (in her way), a little bit different of The Gathering but with its touch where you can find a different sound but already knew.

The track list is the following:

  • Beautiful One
  • Witnesses
  • Yalin
  • Day After Yesterday
  • My Girl
  • Take Care of Me
  • Ice Water
  • You Are Nice
  • Trail of Grief
  • Come Wander
  • Sunken Soldiers
  • Lost and Found
  • Asleep
My favorite songs are: Beautiful One, Witnesses, Day After Yesterday, Come Wander (currently this song is being used in a cosmetic or shampoo advertising), Sunken Soldiers, Lost and Found.

Almost the complete album has quiet songs, they are a kind of relaxing songs and you can listen them while you are doing another task and you need to stay calm and quiet. On the other hand several lyrics are depressive, lyrics where you can hear a broken heart or a separation from a beloved one.

This is an album that you really have to hear and enjoy. It's a new album by Anneke walking in this new way without The Gathering. For the first album I have to say that she has begin this new phase in the right way and I hope to hear more and more about Agua de Annique in the following months and years.

If you listen this disc please let me know your comments about it.

The thin man

Yesterday I bought Hellville DeLuxe, the latest Enrique Bunbury's album. It was released in Septembre 2008.

I heard its first 2 singles before buying this disc:
El hombre delgado que no flaqueará jamás
Hay muy poca gente

By listening both singles I thought this disc will be plenty of new rythms or at least different rythms that Bunbury didn't use in his previous discs, but it was not the case. The singles are not the complete picture of the LP itself, it also includes Bunbury's own style that have created in his previous works, so that you will hear songs slow songs.

Sincerely Bunbury is not one of my favorite artists but he has 2 of my top 25 songs (lady blue, el rescate), so that this time I give him another opportunity but unfortunately I have to still saying that I'm not a fan.

The songs are quiet and have a characteristic rythm, additionally the voice is the well-know-voice from Heroes del Silencio, you will not hear any surprise or a new way to perform a song.

There is not much to say about this disc, if you are a Bunbury's fan then you will like this disc, if you are not, maybe you should hear its songs before buying this disc, because its style is a little bit hard to like. On the other hand, if you buy this disc you'll be able to get access to additional material by accessing a web site and using your original CD, the additional material includes videos, posters and an interview.

Below you'll find a video from youtube and a link to iLike where you can watch and listen a part of Hellville DeLuxe.

Nightmare Revisited

This Christmas I bought a CD according to the season (or maybe not :-P ), I got the Nightmare Revisited. It is a remake of the original A Nightmare before Christmas' Soundtrack, the main difference in this remake is that the songs are performed by other artists than Danny Elfman, in this disc you can hear themes played by Marilyn Manson, DeVotchka, The All-American Rejects and more (you can read the complete track list at the end of this post).

The new way to perform the classic songs from the original Nightmare is very good, but I was waiting for a better performance of certain songs, basically it don't deserves a 5 stars classification because lack of inventive (my point of view) from certain bands. Many tracks are instrumental (for example Ooogie Boogie's song) where originally there were characters saying their dialogues. The songs that I don't like are: Ooogie Boogie's song, Nabbed, Christmas eve montage, to the rescue (it sounds like a song from a SNES videogame like a midi format). On the other hand songs like This is halloween, Jack's lament, What's this?, town Meeting song, Jack's obsession, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, Making Christmas, Sally's song and Poor Jack sound incredible.

This disc is a Must-Have to every fan of Burton and/or Nightmare before Christmas, it really sounds very good and it's a new way to hear classic songs, yeah!

Additionally there are certain songs performed by another artists that are not included in this album, like "Sally's song" performed by London After Midnight (one of my top 50 favorite songs), if you know about another song from this awesome Nightmare performed by any one else just let me know.

The following is the track list of this album:

  1. "Overture" (DeVotchKa) – 2:36
  2. "Opening" (Danny Elfman) – 1:00
  3. "This Is Halloween" (Marilyn Manson) – 3:22
  4. "Jack's Lament" (The All-American Rejects) – 3:15
  5. "Doctor Finkelstein/In The Forest" (Amiina) – 3:17
  6. "What's This?" (Flyleaf) – 3:20
  7. "Town Meeting Song" (The Polyphonic Spree) – 8:55
  8. "Jack and Sally Montage" (The Vitamin String Quartet) – 5:44
  9. "Jack's Obsession" (Sparklehorse) – 5:32
  10. "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" (Korn) – 3:37
  11. "Making Christmas" (Rise Against) – 3:27
  12. "Nabbed" (Yoshida Brothers) – 7:34
  13. "Oogie Boogie's Song" (Rodrigo y Gabriela) – 2:48
  14. "Sally's Song" (Amy Lee) – 3:02
  15. "Christmas Eve Montage" (RJD2) – 3:46
  16. "Poor Jack" (Plain White T's) – 2:34
  17. "To the Rescue" (Datarock) – 3:34
  18. "Finale/Reprise" (Shiny Toy Guns) – 3:06
  19. "Closing" (Danny Elfman) – 1:24
  20. "End Title" (The Album Leaf) – 3:46

Bonus tracks

  1. "Oogie Boogie's Song" (Tiger Army) (iTunes Store bonus track) – 3:02
  2. "Sally's Song" (Scott Murphy) (Japanese bonus track)

Have a happy New Year.
